About Our Writing Retreat
A Reason to Write offers plenty of indoor and outdoor spaces to enable you to create and write with all the quiet it takes to fully engage in your project. There are two private bedrooms with desks and high-speed internet, plus all the shared spaces: one shared bathroom, a fully-equipped kitchen, a dining area, a living area, a covered patio, and literally acres of outdoor space on several levels.
And when you need to take a break, you will have access to kayaks, paddleboards, a canoe, and inner tubes to enjoy the river (all to be enjoyed at your own risk). We are also just a few driving minutes to Harpers Ferry and Charles Town, which are vibrant towns filled with delicious restaurants, grocery stores, libraries, antiquing opportunities, rich history, wonderful theaters, and so much more.
The retreat space is self-contained in the 2,000 sq ft walk-out basement (with its own entrance) of Ellen’s custom-built home. There is truly no place like it.
